Mirissa is one of the best places in the world to see blue whales in the wild — the largest animals on earth. Tours depart daily from Mirissa Harbour during season.
Blue whales, sperm whales, blue fin dolphins, spinner dolphins, and occasional whale sharks. Sightings are not guaranteed but rates are very high between December and April.

Getting around
Tuk-tuks from LKR 200–500 for local trips. Scooter rentals around LKR 1,500/day. Everything in Mirissa is walkable along the beach road.
Cash & ATMs
Mirissa has limited ATMs — withdraw cash in Matara or Galle before you arrive. Most restaurants and hotels accept cards, but smaller vendors are cash-only.
Ocean safety
Rip currents can be strong at certain beach sections. Swim between the flags and ask locals about conditions before entering the water.
Food & drink
Fresh seafood is exceptional here — try a beachfront fish BBQ at sunset. Smoothie bowls, coconut roti, and hoppers for breakfast are local staples.
